Director, Business Intelligence

The Director, Business Intelligence is responsible for developing strategy and vision for the implementation of BI within the agency, and for managing the day-to-day tactical operations of the BI team. He/she will be responsible for all strategic, tactical, operational, financial, human, and technical resource managerial responsibilities associated with the following BI and BI-related functional areas:

  • Data preparation (sourcing, acquisition, integration)
  • Data warehousing
  • Reporting, analytics, data exploration, and data visualizations
  • Information delivery (portals, data extracts)
  • Software development for internal applications that support BI functions

The Director of BI will lead this team by establishing and executing a vision for the delivery of information and analytics platforms to the agency’s key stakeholders, including internal staff, partners, and clients. This position will be ultimately responsible for helping transform the company into an agency that truly differentiates and competes based on a deeply adopted data-driven culture.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensures that the direction of the BI teams aligns with agency needs and priorities
  • Promotes a data-driven culture at the agency by educating and coaching agency stakeholders in the successful adoption of data-driven practices
  • Operates effectively in an agile environment and participates actively in all agile ceremonies
  • Provides technical leadership and is responsible for the over-arching architecture and implementation of business intelligence at the agency including data architecture, data modeling and visualization, and custom software development.
  • Evaluates hardware and software platforms and ensures that the BI team is operating at the leading edge of emerging BI technologies
  • Represents the agency when interacting with clients who have data or analytics needs, including occasional travel to client sites
  • Full people management including performance management, salary reviews, hiring and terminations for five direct reports and a total downstream organization of 18-25 individuals
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
  • Master of Science Degree in Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field
  • 7+ years in data architecture, data modeling, and database design
  • 5+ years in data warehousing
  • 3+ years in data visualization with preference for experience in Tableau
  • 5+ years in software development with preference for experience in .Net
  • Strong experience with statistical modeling principles necessary to effectively lead and supervise a team of data scientists
  • 3+ years managing both individual contributors and other managers
  • Confident, direct, and persuasive communication style and an ability to build consensus and enthusiasm around shared goals
  • Knowledge of media buying and activation and/or retail clients strongly preferred but not required
